Job Hunt pt. 3 (Truth and Dare)

TO MY SEPTEMBER ONE RENT FUND - and get rewarded!

Jh3We want you!
nope, more like -  E.T. phone home!
A plea and a challenge.
This job hunting is exhausting and causing me to make some strange videos. Very curious. Unlike my usual.
I guess my brain is just not able to think like that right now. I plan to be employed by Sept. 1 (the power of positive thinking!), after that, I will get back to my usual obscure and random explorations.
But for now, it's just blah-blah-blah. Sorry.
Thanks to poor-but-happy Peter for posting a link to my resume on his site. It's also downloadable here.

JOB HUNT

Requirements_1Just a little video to show what I have been consumed with this past month, must find gainful employment immediately or all other work will stop. I will be forced to move into a cardboard box in the park next to my building, or worse, move back to Virginia (y'all folks down there, know I'm just messing witcha, so don't fuss!). So, If there's anyone out there watching in HR at some media, arts, advertising organization or firm, just remember that you wouldn't be the first person to recruit someone from their blog. I will even post my resume here so you can see if I fill the requirements of a job with your company. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD MY RESUME

Vaginavlog

Vaginavlog7

www.vaginavlog.com

I have been working all week on a special project with some friends.
They are producing a V-Day event at a club here in New York.
They will perform Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues - a series of short pieces based upon interviews the writer has with women. For her, it is an ongoing process, as she continues to talk to women about their experiences and adds new monologues to the play each year.

From the start, I asked if I could make a vlog to document the process and promote the event.
It is a trial of my idea about making micro documentaries by producing video for web in a modular way which overtime accumulates into a cohesive whole.

The idea is to share creative process -

show what goes into making a work of art, theatre, dance and show it in 'real time' via RSS (or whatever syndication) while creating a document of the process that can function on it's own as a work of art.

Hopefully, whatever reflection and dialog that the web component creates will in some way effect or shape the actuall piece as it being created. Then people can finally get some damn culture on their new blinky portable screen devices.  If anyone wants to talk to me about producing something for your project get in touch -

but it has to be something too weird for the bigger screens.

The Curse of The Videoblogger Continues

And this is where it all begins to get interesting, folks.  A conversation I had with Chris was filmed from several perspectives, one I posted here. Now we get to see Chris' impressions HEREand HERE.  And HERE you can see a vlogger in UK watching the the videoblogging conference via live feed on the internet.  Another moment I am proud to have been a part of was recorded HERE. I could go on like this for a while but it's already an eyeful.

The Curse of The Videoblogger

Videoblog_curseMore vloggercon related video. One of the reasons why I have been using the internet for my art is so that I no longer have to think about where I would show or sell my work. I also hoped it would become a collaborative and interactive process, as well. But this already way beyond what I would have ever expected and I have think this is just the beginning of how strange and wonderful it is going to get over time.  In this video, I am talking with Chris of Human-Dog.  I can't believe the things I hear myself saying. I am not drunk or stoned but certainly feeling altered by all of these strange convergences.

Electric Company

Electric
Tonight I turn on the TV and happen to catch this. And I remember what it was like as a very little kid to actually be excited about a TV show. When I would hear the theme song start for something I liked - not just a catchy tune - but a song which represents the feeling of the whole program. Not that there we're too many choices for kids to watch and we're a PBS type family anyways, but, what was there was good and strange, at least enough that it still affects me. Today, I met with Peter, Jay, Josh,Kenyatta and Mason, to talk about ME-TV. I am in electric company. I dedicate this video to them (and all of the amazingly talented and dedicated folks involved, you know who you are, Charlene.) Fine, it's a goofy sincere, lo-res graphics, kinda cheezy but the enthusiasm is damn catchy and it is going to turn people on. Yes, lightbulbs people. Like the electric company.

Freaking Vogbrowser

This seemed like an important moment to document, catalog and archive for posterity, on the internet, of course. Peter shows us the browser that he is building for Me-TV. Jay gets very excited. Very, very excited. It is exciting. I can't explain why exactly, but you'll soon understand. The first time I talked with these guys about videoblogs was last July. So much has happened in these past few months. Right now, I am wondering what moment I'll be adding to the archive 6 months from now.

Baby's first

Linus
How would a baby make a video? Linus was more than happy to show me. He even got exprimental and played with some of the buttons on my camera (resulting in night vision and no audio). I forgot to mention that I had the LCD fliped around so he could watch himself. He was much braver than me, I use the screen to set things up but don't like to see myself while I'm recording.

videoblog, mon amor.

Mon_amor
I walk to work, get an idea, film it. The subject is a little absurd but it was an inspired moment. It helps to be someone who is rarely embarrased and to be in NYC where people generally don't make a fuss over strange public behavior. See also the Human Dog take in a lovely performance of some agro comments made by people online.

a new toy?

CLick here to see a trial run of a new toolmade for leaving video comments on a blog! It is a clever bit of programming created by a fellow videoblogger, which was made in response to a dialog amongst those of us who post video as an integral part of our blogs. Naturally, we wanted a way for people to post their own video 'comments' to ours, rather than the 'traditional' text comments. And then Andreasmakes it happen. I will be trying it out here. Its exactly what I need to move forward with 'The Emodicons'. I have always imagined it as a video that people could add on to, but I didn't understand that the tools to make this a reality weren't in place yet. How amazing and lucky to be able to test out the possibilities of new tools! It is really a dream come true for me, as an artist especially, to play with the boundaries of a medium.

I am video cameraless this weekend, and feeling a little at a loss. I decided I would spend the weekend offline. But, look where I am... I was so inspired by the dialog between the videoblogs this week that I am dying to respond. Left with only the footage from earlier this week - I had to make something to tide myself over. I have this idea that all the conversations in your life are really part of one big ongoing conversation.

How-to (a macro response)

macrodaysCLick on image to play.

sO many things to respond to, I'm having trouble keeping up, but I cant complain. This is becoming more of a dialog. That's the point ...not to lock myself up in some dark room alone to make the art. The art is in the interaction between people.

How-To Pt.1 (and how to)

howto1CLick on piC to watch movie. So the theme for me this weeks is to create a videobog how-to showing my process for putting my video onto this site. This is step one - pace around your room, pack a bag full of computer junk, put on cowboy boots . didnt turn out so informative as I'd hoped. Try again tomorrow.
I am really excited to find out about deaf community making videoblogs. Inspires me to think about how to be cross-culturally accessible in my work here.
