Not Karaoke
If you are really really good at karaoke, you might be invited to perform at Terry Jinn's birthday party. Well, it's something to aspire to.

Okey-dokey Karaoke Corral
We're getting older, we're on the road again, we don't believe in modern love and some other stuff I don't remember. Colin "King of Karaoke" Schiller did good by us yet again, as promised there was lot's of talent in the room. However, some of us find that we are just as entertained watching ourselves sing into to camera. It's all good.

Why are you here?
Another night, another song. Too many ballads tonight, for my taste. Jenn (send me your link!) is taking karaoke to new heights with her mad skillz. Can you guess why Lynn bothers to leave her appartment and go to a karaoke bar? No, really, tell me, I don't know (well, I have an idea). I found this clip on the tape but the end is cut off. I'll give a special prize to the best answer I see in the 'comments' for this video.

Who's got moves?
Click Here to Watch, if you please
This is a shit edit but I just get such joy from seeing the karaoke performances themselves, that I didn't feel the need to keep fussing with it. I mean, it is what it is. Am I really going to be able to 'say' more with it? I don't know but I do know that it is imperative that I continue to record and archive these wonderfully shameless performances.

TOXIC

I love this cheezy song. After I admitted this to her, Eliza made this video for my blog. Special thanks to Shelly and Jenn for being really funny.

Close to the edge

Some really good performances this week as well as the usual, delighfully terrible ones. I am currently developing an all karaoke channel/playlist for Me-Tv. Special thanks to Colin Schiller for hosting kickass karaoke 5 friggin' nights a week. That's committment. You will find him at Alligator Lounge in Williamsburg on Thursdays and Lit in East Village on Sundays. Probably does weddings and bar mitzvahs if you ask him nicely.

Celebrity Room

My interest in karaoke has been long standing. Way back in high school ( my 10 year reunion came and went)Eliza and I found the only two places in town for it and would regularly drag whoever we could along with us. One was the hotel bar at the swankiest hotel in Richmond. I think it was a Tuesday night and we had to call ahead and tell them that we were underage but we'd promise to buy virgin drinks if they let us in. The other was an Italian christmas-all-year-round themed family restaurant that catered to a very country western crowd and had Elvis and Marilyn themed dining rooms. This makes sense because it was called 'The Celebrity Room' and now that I think of it a perfect name for a karaoke bar.
This video includes 'celebrity' performances by Beth, Shawn, Vanessa and Nick. God, I love these people!

diorama-rama
CLICK HERE TO SEE THE KIDS ROCKIN'The stage, a miniature proscenium, is a diorama. The band looks like Alice popping out of that shrunken house. They're teenagers and they know how to play rock with the correct mix of sincerity and posturing. I can't count the number of bands i've seen play since I was their age, in a parallel universe - it was smokier and drunker and later and louder there. We agree that were never so cool or confident at sixteen. I have this feeling that I am not looking backwards, I am looking into a periscope.
