Albert Cadabra vs. Rubik

Two BIG things I've been up to in one tiny video!
This one minute video is made with footage filmed for a podcast series on local burlesque performers. Featured here, the magical hands of Albert Cadabra.

I was recently invited to help curate 1800 Frames, an exhibition of 1 minute videos for a great gallery called CWOW in NJ. It was so inspiring to see all these artists' work that I decided to make my own 1800 frames video in honor of them.

Video Tag

Earlier this year, I was lucky enought to be asked to participate in a game of video TAG!
Scott (of the tremendous Sketch-it blog), sent me a tiny 'disposable'  digital video camera,
I was given simple instructions:
Record 5 minutes
Send the camera to someone else
This is the video Jenai and I made with the camera, it's an urban haiku.

The camera went to 5 different people, and travelled around the world.
All of the clips can be seen here.

Child's Play

Made this for my friend Raould who loves the carousel at Prospect park.
Reminded me of these 16 mm films we would watch in elementary school.
I want to make more like it.
Gearing up for a kids feed for The PAN.
That's rightt, a daily 15 min video made by the PAN Group, that is all Gee - rated!

Do you dodgeball?

Dodgeball

The PAN plays in the first ever Next NY dodgeball tournament! We lose, I think, to Union Square Ventures? but it was all good fun. Afterwards, I was inspired to write a hot dance track about it. I predict it will be all rage in the clubs this summer.

Wonder Twin Power

Wonder_twinsChristine and Fabio know how to use gravity but I think there's some wonder twin powers involved, too. First I saw them fly through the air and dodge cinderblocks as part of the  STREB dance company then I followed them to a club where they did this.

Beth and I went to every art fair this weekend in NYC. Some years this depresses me but this year I am very excited. She reminds me that really it's just a 'convention' for art people. I hadn't thought of it like that. But she's right. We get to 'geek out' together only every one is dressed really well. DIVA is all digital and video galleries. It's location in a hotel was odd but fitting.  The gallery ower has her shoes off, she sits cross legged on a couch with a glass of wine. We eat candy from a dish on the coffee table and watch TV with her.

Noah sent me this animation after he saw the Electric Company clip. Everyone who watches gets as excited as I do about it. It is 2 am and I really want to post this one, but I want to add something to it to show you more of ME. I don't have any clever ideas. It's just what happened when I listened to it.

Roller girls

Derby6
CLick here to Watch the DerbyHalleluiah, Roller derby is back! It is a fine mix of theatrics and real sport. You must see this. The Gotham Girls of Manhattan and Brooklyn dress to impress and skate like hellions! I borrow music from the late great Slant 6 for this video - it's what I was listening to when editing and it just fit in too perfectly.

Mary is not a great bowler but, she sure can dance. This weeks video's are about dancing and fun in preparation for Halloween. I hope the absurdity helps relieve some of the tension surrounding next weeks election.

click here to see the boomerang actionIm back. I had hoped to be able to post images from this past week - what ive been working on past few days in leiu of posting. I used my olympus c-3030 to make some nice mpegs but turns out the cameras software doesn't jive with osx. Arg! Its always an issue of transferrence. I am ready to create a stronger thread in my content here. Its in the works. Today I am inspired by Charlene, who is starting to develop a self-contained world within her website. It is something which I have always been fascinated by, that images are miniaturized worlds. Maybe, instead of being references to the outside (sign, signifier etc.) they are completely independent. like the difference between similie and metaphor.. anyone remember that? I wrote sometext about this for a show last year.

Yesterday, on my walk home from work, I get a lesson in communication technology. I had read about the project but stumbled upon this unintentionaly.  I am very happy with this video, makes up for the disconnectedness I felt in yesterday's post (though watching it again with sara last night, I think there is something valid there.)

clips I am currently savoring every word of a book by Simone deBeauvior, America Day by Day, in which she writes a few pages a day as she travels from New York to California in 1947. It is full of rich descriptions of her daily interactions with people and her environment, simple but meaningful. At the same time there are all these insights into
American-ness that are as relevant today as they were then.

upsidedownI
Today I am able to log on to TypePad from my newly wireless ibook! I downloaded a program called 'ecto' which I am told, will make the process easier. I can't figure out 'ecto'. I must post anyway. I will get in touch with Jay for another tutorial. Jay is committed to finding a simple way for people anywhere to communicate with each other through this technology. He has found a number of allies in this. I am part of this process. In the last few minutes of yesterday I watched what I had filmed over the course of the day. All of it was bad, useless, dumb. The clock turned to 12:01 and I reminded myself of the rules I set for this months experiment : shoot video every day, keep it short, content is not limited but will be meant to simply describe me and this process of learning. This is a practice space for me, a studio where I can experiment, try things out. I am having to learn so many new things at once in order to do this and its going to help me realize some projects that have been percolating in my head for a very long time. Im excited and nervous but you have to start somewhere. This video is a 360 of me in my room.
