Over the past year, Jenai and I have been developing a concept for a feature documentary film about women tap dancers. This is a short video we cut from the materials we collected during our research. It also includes an amazing dance sequence produced with help from my PAN partners, Daniel and Adam.

We are currenly seeking funding to complete the project. For more information on the film you can visit www.jamjamproductions.org.

Over the course of this coming year, we will be including scenes from the film in the PAN feeds.

TAP VLOG!

I am in California for work this week, with mininal web access, but the beat goes on, so to speak. What I mean is, check out my new video project with Jenai Cutcher (dancer, critic, choreographer and my teacher!). Where we are making a document of the vibrant, contemporary tap dance community. I spent a week watching performances, chatting with dancers, hanging out and filming during Tap City. I was so inspired by what I found - such a diverse and engaging group of talented people, making amazing art together. Dance and video have long made great partners in art but the addition of the web and its interactive potentials, really reflects the spirit of exchange that is alive and well within the tap dance community.

I don't care for the cheap sentimentality of it but I do love the aesthetic. Love in plastic and pink and those heart shaped boxes! In honor of Fashion Week and Valentine's day, I decide to accesorize, think sweet, and take to the runway.  I borrowed the music from Fugazi, those damn drums sound so good.

This is a shit edit but I just get such joy from seeing the karaoke performances themselves, that I didn't feel the need to keep fussing with it. I mean, it is what it is. Am I really going to be able to 'say' more with it? I don't know but I do know that it is imperative that I continue to record and archive these wonderfully shameless performances.

Mary is not a great bowler but, she sure can dance. This weeks video's are about dancing and fun in preparation for Halloween. I hope the absurdity helps relieve some of the tension surrounding next weeks election.
